Our beautiful Swan Lake watershed and estuarine wetland are located on northern Whidbey Island, Washington. We are community members and friends working to preserve them for the continued recreation and enjoyment of future generations. Swan Lake is just south of Joseph Whidbey State Park and west of the City of Oak Harbor. Map.

About Swan Lake

Beauty and diversity, and the blessings of nature, make Swan Lake one of the jewels of Whidbey Island and Puget Sound. The lake is an important stop in the worldwide migration of many birds, and is home to other non-migrating species. It is among a handful of Habitats of Local Importance recognized by Island County. Studies suggest this estuarine wetland can be reconnected to the saltwater and restored as a successful habitat for Chinook salmon and other fish species. More.

Preliminary feasibility study for Swan Lake Restoration. Dec. 11, 2009. Swan Lake Watershed Preservation Group (SWLPG), in partnership with the Skagit Fisheries Enhancement Group (SFEG) received approval for a Washington State Salmon Recovery Funding Board (SRFB) grant of almost $25,000 for a preliminary feasibility study of an enhanced tidal connection with the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
